Silk: From Lyon to You
In the hills above Lyon, master weavers continue a tradition that began in the Renaissance. We traced the journey of our silk from cocoon to collection.
Atelier & light
Lyon's silk quarter—the Croix-Rousse—was once home to 30,000 looms. Today, fewer than 100 remain. But in the workshops that survive, the craft continues unchanged. We visited Maison Bouton, our partner since 1978, where fourth-generation weaver Philippe Bouton showed us the Jacquard looms his great-grandfather used. 'The machines are old,' he says, 'but the silk they produce is eternal.'
