Atelier & light
In 1962, Aurèle Montfort opened her first atelier in a two-room apartment above a café on the rue de Sèvres. She had three sewing machines, no clients, and an unshakeable conviction: that French women deserved clothes that lasted. Her first collection—twelve pieces in black and camel—sold out in a week. 'I didn't design fashion,' she would later say. 'I designed permanence.'
